I am an art historian who geeks out on symbols as a hidden written language in art and architecture. Holy Grail and Da Vinci Code fans never die. But the real story is more interesting than that. This is a video blog about a documentary short I wrote and produced a few years ago for Coded History. A study of symbols of the secrets of the Holy Grail in San Francisco art museums. The Bohemians coming to Haight Ashbury and the woman who paid for them. And an unknown apocryphal Bible in pictures in a museum’s collection. I think the museum doesn’t know what they have, or that it is a book.
The museum people don’t know it, because it is in pictures and they don’t know how to read the symbols. As you know, I spent 8 years studying the symbols as a language and writing system. The museum folk don’t know it is a book, because it is in a big collection of small etchings on separate pieces of paper.
