Art Gallery Management Internship - Oakland, CA
The Gallery Management internship offers the unique opportunity for hands-on experience in gallery management with a contemporary art non-profit. Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Gallery Coordinator, interns develop skills to support the operations of both the gallery and the organization at large. This position provides the opportunity to strengthen communication and organizational skills, work in a collaborative setting and develop individual professional goals, understand the structure of a non-profit organization, and gain exposure to arts and cultural organizations and events.

Gallery Sitting / Management
Community Partner relationship development
Client Services / Customer Relations with a focus on artists, gallery visitors, and patrons
About Pro Arts:
Pro Arts is an Oakland-based regional organization that encourages change in and through the arts to invigorate our communities. Pro Arts' vision is to inspire creativity, community and change. Celebrating our 40th Anniversary in 2014, we've evolved into a vital artistic hub for Oakland and the Bay Area. We engage public audiences, artists, and youth in and through the arts via three key program areas: Visual Arts, Arts Education and Artist Services. Annually, Pro Arts produces over 20 exhibitions, exhibits over 600 artists, and conducts over 700 art classes for youth.
Commitment and Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship, can be arranged for school credit. Hours and days are flexible. Ideally interns can commit 12 hours/week (10 hours minimum) over 4 to 6 months. Pro Arts’ regular gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 11am-4pm. The gallery is also open until 9pm the First Friday of every month. Duration of Internship: 4 (minimum) – 6 months
Qualifications:
Possess a BA minimally or currently in junior/senior status, MA-candidate preferred; At least 1-2 year customer service experience; Able to work at least 12 hours a week for the 4 month internship period; Knowledge of general retail operations, including transactions and intake of inventory; Passion for building community through the arts; Friendly and engaging; Flexible, able to change direction to meet needs of task; Computer Office Administration experience, MS Office proficient, familiarity with Excel/Spreadsheets, database management experience is a plus; Excellent communication skills and ability to complete projects independently with attention to detail. Preferred background in business; art history; gallery management; arts administration; retail sales; or related field.
