EVENT SUPERVISOR

Department: Events Management 
Reports To: Events Director and assigned Event Manager 
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt

Overview: The Event Supervisor (On-Call) supports Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC)'s larger campus events. FMCAC seeks a qualified individual who has exemplary customer service, an ability to problem-solve, enjoys working in a diverse environment, and can demonstrate tact and diplomacy in difficult situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in coordinating events and working with staff, vendors, clients, and other participants

  • Experience working with large groups (1000+), including experience in safety and crowd control issues

  • Calm under pressure; ability to direct staff, guests, and vendors in a level-headed manner in an emergency situation

  • Customer-service oriented

  • Organized, detail-oriented; demonstrated maturity in judgment and actions

  • Excellent verbal communication skills; tact and diplomacy in dealing with people and handling difficult situations

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time

  • Basic computer skills are required.

Essential Functions

  • Provide logistical support for events taking place in the Festival pavilion and General's Residence

  • Proactively work to ensure that clients have a positive experience at Fort Mason Center

  • Oversee safety of guests, vendors, and staff, working with client to correct unsafe situations as needed

  • Monitor load in, event, and load out to be sure rules are followed and approved floorplans are enforced

  • Troubleshoot facility and personnel issues as they arise

  • Continually survey piers, parking lots, and resident buildings for negative impact. Assure rapid emergency response when/if required

  • Advise clients and vendors regarding alcohol consumption regulations on campus including adherence to the alcohol permits time line

  • Act as the liaison between key vendors, being the conduit of communication between the client and our contractors

  • Supervise service contractors (janitorial, security, parking, etc.) confirming hours worked and delegating tasks as necessary

  • Communicate the activities of the day, via written notes

  • Oversee the locking/unlocking of event spaces as required.

    This is an on-call position that fluctuates with the event season. Hours are not guaranteed, but during low season, one could expect five (5) shifts per month and during high season it could be as many as 12–15 per month.
