ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB DESCRIPTION- Media teacher
The Reel Stories media teacher is the face of our Beginner Bootcamp filmmaking summer programs and will be in charge of instructing and supervising students throughout the program. The Reel Stories curriculum is divided into the categories of media literacy, narrative filmmaking, documentary filmmaking, screenwriting, sound recording, camera operation, editing, and sound editing. Our programs have guest speakers who are professionals in the media industry to facilitate specific workshops. When a guest speaker is not scheduled, the media teacher needs to be prepared to supplement and/or teach a 1.5 hour lesson on any or all of these. In addition to teaching, the media teacher has a set of technical support duties including equipment checkout and inventory, equipment setup and breakdown, software troubleshooting, and video editing. The media teacher is also responsible for editing together a master sequence of all completed student projects in preparation for screening their films after program.
Technical skills: Teaching experience and experience with our programs’ technical resources are a plus. Filmmakers at Reel Stories use the Canon EOS rebel T5, Zoom H4n handy recorders, and Sennheiser boom mics for production. Filmmakers use Adobe Creative suite - including Premiere Pro CC and After Effects - for post-production.
Soft skills: The Reel Stories media teacher should be skilled in mediation, and be able to maintain a collaborative learning environment that is encouraging and safe for women, trans, and non-binary students.
Rate for this position is $22/hr.
