Scenic Design/ Technical Theatre Instructor - Chico CA

The Position: The College of Humanities and Fine Arts, Department of Music and Theatre is collecting application materials for a one-year (2019-2020) full-time temporary faculty teaching opportunity beginning August 21, 2019 in the area of Scenic Design and Technical Theatre. The ideal candidate would scenic design and draft all four main-stage productions as well as oversee the student crews and teach courses in design.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Qualification Details:

Minimum Qualifications: An MA in Scenic Design or related field. Scenic Design and drafting experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates would have an MFA and/or a secondary design area and/or be qualified to teach Theatre History, Makeup, Costume Crafts or Stage Management.

Responsibilities: Scenic Design and drafting for all four main stage productions. Mentor and oversee student production crews and contribute scenic painting and construction to main stage productions. Instructor for Foundations of Design course. Additional duties as assigned.

The Department: The Department of Music and Theatre offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with options in Music Education, Music Industry, Recording Arts, General Music; a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, as well as minors in Music, Musical Theatre Dance, and Theatre to over 400 majors. Department faculty comprising 12 full-time faculty and 24 part-time faculty have a wide range of teaching and research interests, including cross-disciplinary work. In addition to the coursework offered to majors and minors, the department also participates fully in the General Education, Honors, and Liberal Studies programs.
