Writer in Residence

The ODC Writer-in-Residence is an independent contractor who plays a unique role at the nexus of ODC's artistry, creative process and current and potential audiences for the ODC Company, ODC Theater Resident Artists and ODC Theater's Presented artists. The WIR provides insight and context of specific works, a dynamic framework for contemporary dance that highlights its connection to the broader social/cultural milieu, introduces a critical vocabulary to the public, and furthers ODC's mission to foster diversity and inclusivity through dance. While the written word is still the primary format with which the WIR will capture and explore traces of dance's ephemeral form, ODC embraces the potential of a WIR with podcasting and/or digital storytelling skills. The ideal candidate will play an active and leading role in designing and delivering original content and in the dissemination strategy for that content in the way that independent journalists at Pro Publica, California Sunday and other journalistic outlets are doing in the evolving media and cultural landscape. Reflecting ODC's values and commitment to both excellence and access, the WIR shall have editorial independence but will be encouraged to emphasize inquiry and analysis rather than judgment.
