  San Francisco Opera is an ideal place to experience professional learning. The staff strives to ensure that an internship serves to enhance the student’s educational experience and career development. All interns become integral members of the department(s) to which they are assigned and gain valuable experience while making enduring professional contacts. San Francisco Opera's internships also allow interns access to the thrilling world of opera!

  INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

  Our Internship Program is designed to provide interns with practical hands-on experience in both artistic and administrative areas. From time-to-time we offer internships in the following departments: Artistic & Musical Administration, Finance/Information Systems, Development, Special Events, Guild Activities & Events, Human Resources, Marketing, Media, Public Relations, Opera Center, Orchestra Administration, and Technical Production.

  Internships are part-time with the number of hours dependent upon the requirements of the department, are unpaid, and are handled on a project-by-project basis.

  Since San Francisco Opera's internships are unpaid, interns must meet the following criteria as established by California’s Division of Labor Standards Enforcement:

  • Interns must be students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program at a college or university, at least freshman level, and be receiving academic credit for the internship, or

  • Interns must participate in a training program approved by a public agency

  
  Additionally, all interns are expected to possess these minimum qualifications: knowledge of their subject area, proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to work as a team player, ability to organize and prioritize, and ability to take direction well.
