5 Paid Film Institute Internships

Haydenfilms Institute Academy Internship Program

Students chosen as HFI Interns will have the opportunity to work in an energetic and innovative environment while contributing to an independent, world renowned film institute.

Internship opportunities are offered in 3, 6 or 9 credit programs for one full semester, and provide a range of 150-450 hours of experience in film and video production services, professional writingcomputer science, and marketing.

If selected to be a part of the HFI Academy Internship Program, students will take an active role in the student production team as well as internal processes of the institute. Interns have the opportunity to actively build a portfolio of work that they may showcase for future employment positions while gaining professional skills and confidence crucial for the workforce.

Ideal candidates are organized, creative, have a dedicated work ethic and have a passion for cinema, media arts and education. All interns will receive a stipend to be discussed upon acceptance into the program. Please look below for the different internship available.

Professional Writing Internship

Professional Writing Interns have the exciting opportunity to develop their writing skills in a variety of challenging assignments. Aspects of this internship include researching and pitching story ideas for feature articles relating to HFI and the film industry, viewing and writing reviews for assigned films and attending and reporting on film festivals, screenings and discussion panels. Interns will also be responsible for diversifying, populating, and maintaining HFI’s social networking sites, including TwitterFacebook and The Slate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Originality, determination and discipline in writing

  • Vivid imagination and openness to constructive criticism

  • Research and organizational skills

  • Provide writing samples (essays, published/unpublished articles, blogs, etc.)

Videographer Internship

Videographer Interns are integral members of the production team and will work directly with clients from the pre-production stages through production. Collaborating directly with the Film Editor Intern, Videographer Interns are in charge of duties ranging from handling all camera equipment to translating abstract concepts into visual form and bringing the clients’ vision to life.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Effective communication and imaginative skills to conceptualize abstract ideas and transform them into final products

  • Knowledge of how to operate professional film production equipment such as video cameras and audio recorders

Film Editor Internship

Film Editor Interns will be responsible for the post-production process. Interns will contribute their present experience and knowledge to experiment with styles and techniques of design, voiceover and commentary as well as graphic elements. They will also have the opportunity to consult with the director, producer and client of the HFI Agency film projects throughout the post-production and editing processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous video editing experience

  • Experience with non-linear editing software; Final Cut Pro (required)

  • Use of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects on MAC and PC computers

  • Effective communication and storytelling skills that will convey a message and bring the vision to life for the client

Computer Science Internship

Computer Science Interns need a working knowledge of various computer programs that assist with user support and feedback, troubleshooting issues, tracking down problems and creating solutions. Interns will be able to develop specific in-house software programs that allow HFI to distribute media content globally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and work with multi-tier web applications as well as content encoding

  • Working knowledge and experience using HTML, PHP, JAVA and API (expansion design and implementation)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with programmers, managers and other technical staff

Marketing Internship

Marketing Interns will actively engage, cultivate and manage public relation campaigns and will be a vital component to HFI. Marketing interns are tasked with building brand awareness by developing a social media presence for both HFI and the production services of the HFI Agency. Interns will also collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions and venues for marketing and communications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of product and brand management, marketing research, new media, advertising and public relations

  • Ability to collaborate in a creative and innovative environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Provide marketing related writing samples
